🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1966, three witnesses in Rochester, New York, reported a bright object moving across the sky. The object appeared as a white light similar to a star or satellite. Initially moving eastward, it changed direction to the north. The observer, an engineer with radar experience, called his wife and daughter to view it. The object's movement was described as irregular, with zigzags that seemed unnatural. The observation lasted about five minutes before the object disappeared over the northern horizon.
The official conclusion from Project Blue Book was that the object was the ECHO II satellite. This NASA satellite was passing through the area at the time and had a brightness sufficient to be visible to the naked eye. The report suggested that the apparent irregular movement of the satellite could be due to light fluctuations and natural eye movements, which can create the illusion of zigzags. Despite the explanation, the witnesses did not recognize the object as a known satellite, adding intrigue to this case.
