🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1966, three witnesses in Beavercreek, Ohio, observed an object that looked like a kite or balloon. The object was seen for 15 minutes and was moving north at around 30 miles per hour. One of the observers saw it pass directly over their pickup truck at an estimated height of 300 feet. The object suddenly changed direction to the south and then back to the north, eventually disappearing behind a house. Although initially thought to be a UFO, investigators concluded it could have been a balloon launched from Sulphur Grove, Ohio, which is launched twice a day. The object's description and behavior matched typical characteristics of a weather balloon.
The object was described as transparent and silent, and its unexpected movement caused some confusion. However, investigators considered factors such as wind direction and the timing of balloon launches to arrive at a plausible explanation. Although no physical evidence was found, the report includes a detailed description of the event, including maps and witness observations. The case was filed without confirming extraterrestrial activity, but remains an interesting example of how unexplained aerial phenomena can have earthly explanations.
