In October 1966, multiple witnesses at Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina, reported seeing five or six flashing white lights moving erratically toward the southeast. The observation lasted about five minutes, and there was no air traffic in the area. Despite the RAPCON radar detecting nothing, the observers insisted the lights were real. The official report concluded the lights could have been migrating geese, as two flocks were observed at the same time. The responsible officer did not rule out the possibility that the runway beacon reflected the birds or scattered clouds, though the moon was not considered a factor in the case.
