A witness in Newtown, Pennsylvania, reported a bright rod-green light in the eastern sky on November 8, 1966. The object was located near the lower end of the Big Dipper, although the Big Dipper was not visible in that direction. Instead, the constellation Orion, which resembles a dipper when considering its three main stars as the bottom, was present. The object remained stationary but moved up and down repeatedly to the same position. The observation lasted about an hour and was made from the ground with direct vision.
Investigators concluded that the sighting was consistent with an astronomical observation. The description of the object and its behavior matched the appearance of Sirius, which was rising at the time. There was no physical evidence or photographs, and the report did not include additional details about the witness or witnesses. Despite the ambiguity in the exact location of the constellation, the analysis suggested that it was not an unusual phenomenon.
