Summary

In February 1967, a resident of Morgantown, Pennsylvania, reported an unusual aerial phenomenon during a late-night walk. The witness described a sequence of events beginning with an orange fireball that evolved into a formation of three lights (one white, one green, and one red). Later, the object changed to a crescent-shaped "U" with continuous red lights. The observer made calculations to estimate the object's height, speed, and distance, concluding it was traveling at approximately 530 miles per hour at an altitude of about 12,629 feet. Despite the detailed description, investigators from Project Blue Book concluded the phenomenon could be explained as a conventional aircraft, though they noted the unusual brightness of the light observed.

The official Project Blue Book report analyzed the witness's description and considered that, aside from the intensity of the light, the rest of the characteristics were consistent with a commercial aircraft. It was highlighted that planes during landing can have powerful lights that might appear abnormal from certain distances. Although the object's speed and altitude calculations were verified, no further investigation was deemed necessary due to the lack of clearly unexplained elements. The case was closed as a conventional sighting, but the witness's detailed description and technical calculations show a meticulous and well-documented observation.
