🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1967, an observer in Los Angeles, California, spotted a bright white object slowly descending toward the ground. The object was much brighter than the brightest stars and had a visible tail behind it. Initially, the observer thought it might be a comet, but the slow descent made them reconsider. The object disappeared behind some apartment buildings. Later contacts with SPADATS revealed that a satellite had decayed around 04:16 on February 16, 1967, near the West Coast of the United States. This event was observed by several people along the coast, indicating it was a phenomenon visible from a great distance.
The description of the object and its behavior aligns with the decay of a satellite, explaining its unusual appearance and visible tail. Despite the initial confusion, the correlation with satellite data confirms it was not an unknown phenomenon, but a known space event. This case is an example of how UFO sightings often have rational explanations, even if they appear unusual to the average observer.
