In March 1967, multiple observers in Kirksville, Missouri, reported an unusual aerial phenomenon that remained visible for over an hour. The object was described as a very bright star-like entity, similar to three or four stars grouped together. It appeared nearly stationary in the western sky, at about 45 degrees elevation and 270 degrees azimuth. Despite its apparent stillness, it was noted to move slowly toward the northwest before gradually disappearing. A military officer also observed a similar light in the same area of the sky, which moved for a few minutes before vanishing.
The official report suggested the object could have been Venus, which was indeed in a similar position in the sky at that time. However, the observers did not identify it as such, and the object's behavior did not match that of a planet. The investigation failed to determine a natural or conventional cause for the phenomenon, prompting investigators to request further guidance. This case is particularly intriguing due to the duration of the observation and the consistency among the witnesses.
