🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A railroad worker in Roaring Springs, Texas, reported seeing a bright fireball in the night sky on June 5, 1967. The object, described as the size of a volleyball, emitted a bright yellow light that gradually faded to orange and red. The witness stated it did not resemble the bright meteors he had seen before. The observation lasted between 5 and 10 seconds, and the investigating officer concluded it was a phenomenon known as "fireball" lightning. This occurs under extreme downdraft conditions in thunderstorms, where a fireball erupts from the base of a cloud after a lightning strike. The officer interviewed the witness and confirmed with local authorities that no other sightings were reported. He concluded the account was consistent with this rare atmospheric event.
