UFO sighted in North Highlands, California

Summary

A civilian reported observing two lights similar to aircraft landing lights or artificial satellites. After watching the objects for several minutes, what appeared to be drops of molten metal began to fall from the trailing object. After about 30 seconds, the objects intensified considerably in brightness and then disappeared completely. A few minutes later, the other object disappeared in a similar manner. Although the description matched a hot air balloon, the report mentioned a travel direction that did not align with the wind direction, causing some confusion. However, investigators considered it possible that the objects were hot air balloons.
