UFO sighted near Valley Station, Kentucky

Summary

A civilian observer reported a bright object similar to a star or a white recognition light on an aircraft that moved in an erratic flight path. The object passed through some thin cloud layers, dimmed, and finally disappeared. Two witnesses confirmed the sighting. Although a weather balloon was launched nearby at 0016 hrs, the observer ruled it out due to wind direction discrepancies. At 6,000 feet, surface winds were blowing toward the southwest, while the object traveled toward the southeast. However, at 10,000 feet, the wind was blowing toward the southwest. The balloon could be seen up to 10,000 feet and ascends at about 1,000 feet per minute. The report concluded that the phenomenon could not be identified with certainty.
