🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1968, a witness in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, reported an unidentified flying object displaying lights that changed color from bright red to white and pale orange. The observer, a local editor, described the object as round with an undefined shape and observed it for about 20 minutes. The object moved northwest, making sudden triangular patterns. Despite multiple calls to Air Force personnel, including the officer at McGuire AFB, the case received no clear or professional response. The witness even contacted his local congressman, Richard Schweiker, for further assistance. The Air Force concluded the object could have been a weather balloon, though the witness remained unconvinced. The lack of formal action and what seemed like an indifferent response generated frustration.
The official investigation failed to conclusively determine the object's nature, and the report was sent to Wright-Patterson AFB for further analysis. The report also highlighted the need to improve UFO response protocols, as the current process was deemed ineffective and costly. Despite the uncertainties, the case reflects the confusion and lack of coordination often seen in official responses to UFO reports during that era.
