🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
This declassified document reports a mysterious sighting of an unidentified object that occurred in Ohio, United States. An observer described a large luminous object in yellow, golden, and white colors, the size of the moon, that came within 300 feet of their car. The object emitted a sound similar to a moan, had an odor reminiscent of German airplanes from World War II, and appeared to be spinning. Photos of the event were taken, adding a tangible element to the description. Two experts, Dr. Menzel and Dr. J. A. Hynek, analyzed the sighting but reached different conclusions: one considered it an unidentified phenomenon or plasma, while the other attributed it to a simple moon observation. The case reflects the complexity of interpreting unusual aerial phenomena.
The document also includes historical information about Greene County, Ohio, established in 1803 in honor of General Nathaniel Greene. The area was originally inhabited by the Shawnee people, and the first white settlement was founded by John Wilson in 1796. Xenia became the county seat, and its name, of Greek origin, means hospitality. The first county building was a small wooden shed, and the first building in Xenia was completed in 1809 at a cost of $3,396. This historical context adds depth to the location of the sighting.
