🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1968, about 20 personnel at Craig AFB in Alabama observed a bright object emitting blue and green waves. The object remained fixed near the horizon, at an altitude of 2-5 degrees, with waves expanding outward like ripples in a pond. After about three minutes, the object suddenly blinked out. The weather was clear with low clouds and a slightly hazy sky.
The base concluded that the phenomenon was most likely a rocket launch from Cape Kennedy, located about 200 nautical miles away. Although the distance seemed significant, the weather data and the description matched a rocket launch. The light emission and wave pattern were consistent with a low-orbit rocket, leading to the dismissal of more conventional explanations like weather balloons or aircraft.
