A witness in Arcanum, Ohio, reported in 1968 having observed an aerial phenomenon that initially appeared to consist of several floating objects moving from northwest to southwest. The report details that the witness called Wright-Patterson AFB to report the sighting. Later, around 6:45 p.m., the clouds cleared and the witness noticed a searchlight reflecting on the clouds, which explained the initial appearance of multiple objects. The report concluded that what was observed was simply the reflection of a searchlight on the low clouds.
The witness carefully described the sequence of events and the change in the appearance of the phenomenon, leading to a terrestrial explanation. Despite the initial confusion, the report highlights the importance of considering conventional light sources before attributing phenomena to unidentified objects. The testimony and subsequent investigation helped clarify the situation, demonstrating how weather conditions can influence visual perception.
