Summary

In May 1969, a 12-year-old boy in Vandalia, Ohio, reported seeing an unusual object in the sky. He described a brown ball about 8 feet in diameter with a flashing light. Initially, he thought it was an airplane, but after noticing its odd flight path and the absence of sound, he realized it was something different. The observation lasted several minutes and was documented as part of a U.S. Air Force report.

Investigators concluded the object could be a weather balloon or a garment bag hot air balloon. The physical description and behavior of the object matched these conventional explanations. Additionally, the area had frequent air traffic, which complicated definitive identification. Although the witness was young, his testimony was considered coherent and detailed. No physical evidence or photographs were found, further limiting confirmation possibilities.
