🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1953, four F-86 fighters observed a formation of triangular objects over North Korea. Pilots described between 20 and 25 objects at around 30,000 feet, five miles away. Initially thought to be giant kites, no cables or lines were seen. Some had circular discs or balloons with black streamers. The objects remained stationary for 30 seconds, raising suspicions they might be radar reflectors or spy balloons launched from Antung Airfield. Intelligence considered the possibility of testing antenna lobes or weather conditions.
The sighting was documented by reliable officers, including sketches and maps. Despite the high speed of the jets (0.93 Mach), the objects did not move. U.S. intelligence could not determine the exact purpose, though enemy aircraft were ruled out. This case is part of a series of similar sightings in the region during 1953, suggesting possible experimental activity by communist forces.
