In June 1968, a witness in Ohio reported an unusual aerial phenomenon near Foster, Kentucky. She observed a series of red lights that blinked rhythmically and irregularly, which initially made her think of an airplane in distress. However, the number of lights and their fixed position in the sky made her doubt it was a plane. The witness described the lights as resembling the "Big Dipper," with some blinking in sequence and others randomly. The phenomenon was visible for several minutes before disappearing behind a hill.
The U.S. Air Force investigated the case and concluded it was likely a commercial aircraft with electric advertising lights. An aircraft operated by Barnes Aerial Advertising, which flew in the area, matched the description. These planes had lights visible from a distance and were used for aerial advertising. Although the witness was unsure, the most plausible explanation pointed to an advertising plane, not an unidentified object.
