In 1958, Australia's Department of Defence recorded several reports on unidentified flying objects. One notable case occurred in Wooroloo, where A.F. Wishart observed a bright object in the sky. According to his account, the object moved at a speed three times faster than the fighter jets he was watching at the time. Wishart described the object as a white, table-tennis ball-like shape that quickly disappeared, leaving no trace. The report was submitted to the Department of Civil Aviation for analysis.
Another report came from Essendon, where a witness described a greenish light moving in a straight line across the sky. Investigators concluded it could have been a meteor, though other explanations were not ruled out. These reports, while not always conclusive, reflect the official interest in unidentified aerial phenomena during the 1950s.
