In March 1973, a man in BaXcombe, Australia, reported seeing two flashing red lights in the sky. The lights appeared to follow his car for about three miles before disappearing to the east. The Royal Australian Air Force investigated the incident and concluded that it was likely a civilian aircraft operating under night visual meteorological conditions. The aircraft's navigation and anti-collision lights explained the observed red lights. The low altitude of the aircraft accounted for both its apparent rapid movement and the periods during which it seemed stationary. Although not confirmed with certainty, the explanation provided was considered plausible.
