In 1951, an Australian high-ranking officer responded to a parliamentary inquiry about UFOs, acknowledging the existence of reports on "flying saucers" but without confirming any concrete physical evidence. The report highlighted two concepts: one related to mysterious objects of unknown origin and another to theoretical aerospace designs. A commander explained that "saucer-like" shapes could be advantageous for supersonic flight due to their aerodynamic stability. However, no viable prototypes had been developed. The minister noted that although multiple reports had been received in Australia, Canada, and the UK, the phenomenon had not yet been identified. The possibility of optical illusions following meteorites was also mentioned. Despite speculation, it was not considered a priority for defense forces at that time.
