In August 1950, a ship in the North Atlantic reported an unidentified flying object. Three crew members, including the captain, described seeing an oval-shaped object moving at high speed. They described a shiny, metallic object that made no noise and exhibited a spinning motion. The object appeared near the ship, at a distance of hundreds of feet, and quickly disappeared toward the northeast. Witnesses agreed it was not a conventional aircraft and its behavior was unusual.
The CIA collected this testimony as part of its UFO investigations. Intelligence officers who interviewed the crew noted they were deeply affected by the event. Although there were discrepancies in speed estimates, calculations based on time and distance suggested the object was traveling near 500 miles per hour. This document, though old, remains a fascinating account of a phenomenon with no conventional explanation.
