A group of residents in Matanzas, including the reporter, observed unidentified flying objects on December 21, 1993. An eight-year-old child was the first to notice the phenomenon, describing bright lights moving in a straight line from north to south. The witnesses saw a bright white ball followed by glowing tails, resembling comets, which multiplied into six or seven lights. The objects remained visible for about 30 seconds.
The next day, it was confirmed that scientists from the Cuban Academy of Sciences had also observed the phenomenon from different areas. A meteorologist, Orestes Gribaó, compared the event to a 1913 photograph from the Toronto Observatory in Canada, and stated that both events were very similar. This generated interest in the study of extraterrestrial phenomena and was considered a case worthy of further investigation.
