In December 1979, a butcher in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region witnessed a luminous ball that appeared to follow his van. The object emitted a sharp sound and changed colors, causing panic in the witness. Despite accelerating, the phenomenon accompanied him for two kilometers before suddenly disappearing. The gendarmerie found no other witnesses or clear explanations, classifying the case as unexplained.
A later investigation, using digital tools and a reconstruction at the same location, revealed that the witness had experienced a perceptual illusion caused by the full moon. The described trajectory matched exactly the apparent path of the moon in relation to the road's curves. Additionally, the social context of the time, with rumors of abductions and UFOs, heightened the witness's fear. Although the sound and a later intestinal issue seemed unusual, there was no objective evidence to support them. Ultimately, the case was classified as a moon observation.
