In December 1953, a pilot and a mechanic from Transair Airlines reported observing a metallic circular object over the Skåne region in Sweden. The incident occurred while they were flying a DC-3 at an altitude of 2,150 meters. The object, described as symmetrical and estimated to be 10 meters in diameter, was moving at a speed close to that of sound, which surprised the witnesses. The pilot, Ulf Christiernsson, a veteran aviator with RAF experience during World War II, stated that it was neither a jet plane nor a meteorological phenomenon. The object left no exhaust or condensation trail and its shape was unlike any known aircraft.
Swedish defense authorities investigated the case. Although meteorite and weather balloon explanations were considered, no definitive conclusion was reached. A perfume company director even suggested it could have been an advertising balloon. However, calculations to determine whether such a small balloon could appear as described by the witnesses were still pending. The case remains one of the most detailed and convincing UFO sightings in history, and its resolution remains a mystery.
