In April 2014, a witness in Petit-Quevilly observed three bright objects in the sky moving in formation. Shortly after, they saw a luminous phenomenon resembling an atmospheric entry. The account, unique but detailed, described an observation lasting between 30 and 50 seconds. Although initially unusual, the investigation revealed it was a set of Chinese Yaogan 17 satellites. Their behavior, brightness, and trajectory matched perfectly what is expected from such satellites. Additionally, the final phenomenon was explained as either a meteor or a flash from satellite Iridium 40. The confusion was not visual but interpretative, mixing two distinct phenomena. The case was classified as a misinterpretation, not an unexplained event.
