Summary

In April 1957, a witness in Washington, D.C., observed two bright circular objects, about a third the size of a dime and a dull pink color. The objects appeared in the sky, first heading south, then east, and finally north. The witness reported a sound like distant thunder after the objects disappeared. The observation lasted between four and five seconds, leading investigators to conclude it was an astronomical meteor. Despite the apparent high speed, it was considered a natural phenomenon and not an unidentified flying object.

The official report classified the incident as a meteor, although the witness did not immediately recognize the phenomenon. It was noted that the thunder-like sound could be due to breaking the sound barrier, possibly caused by jet interceptors. Despite the brief observation, the testimony was considered consistent with an astronomical event. No photos were taken and radar was not used, limiting the possibility of a more precise evaluation. The report concluded there was not enough evidence to consider the phenomenon as a UFO.
