Summary

In August 1957, military and civilian personnel at Niagara Falls Air Force Base (New York) observed two bright objects in the night sky. One was twice the size of a star, the other three times. Both emitted a white light that momentarily turned orange. Observers noted that one was slightly higher and to the south of the other, and both disappeared over the horizon. The sighting lasted between 15 and 30 minutes and was confirmed by multiple witnesses, including tower operators and air observers.

Later reports concluded that the objects were Venus and Jupiter. A local astronomer verified their position using a theodolite, and it was highlighted that unusual weather conditions—free of haze and pollution—made the planets appear extremely bright. Despite sending an F-86L jet to intercept them, pilots couldn't close the distance and reported that the objects maintained their position, confirming they were not aircraft. The case was closed with a clear astronomical explanation, though it generated an interesting exchange of reports and analysis beforehand.
