🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1958, an American Airlines pilot reported an object moving vertically with a trajectory similar to a meteor. The sighting occurred near Trent, Texas, and was described as a long white streak that broke into several fragments. The pilot observed intense light and a vertical motion, characteristics matching those of a bolide. The sighting lasted between 7 and 8 seconds, ending with the object bursting and fading away.
Investigators concluded the phenomenon was almost certainly a meteor, ruling out other explanations like balloons or aircraft. Although there were no photos or radar data involved, the pilot's testimony and detailed description provided enough information to classify it as an astronomical event. This case is an example of how UFO sightings often have natural explanations, though they continue to generate curiosity and debate.
