Summary

In June 1960, a child in Syracuse, New York, witnessed an unusual event when a molten object struck his boot. Two objects, one metallic and another of low density, fell near his home. Military and scientific authorities analyzed the samples, which showed signs of exposure to high temperatures. Initially thought to be a meteorite, the analysis revealed the material to be glass furnace slag, a common industrial byproduct. A connection to a space object, such as Sputnik IV, was also considered but not confirmed.

The investigation included spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and infrared testing, identifying the chemical composition and non-crystalline structure of the objects. Despite tests, no evidence of radioactivity or extraterrestrial origin was found. Ultimately, the objects were determined to be of terrestrial origin, likely related to industrial processes. While intriguing, this case did not provide new clues about UFO phenomena, but it highlighted the rigorous methodology used by authorities to evaluate sighting reports.
