In January 1953, a group of experts reviewed reports on unidentified flying objects (UFOs) to assess if they posed a threat to national security. The data came mainly from the U.S. Air Force, which selected the best-documented cases. After a detailed analysis, the panel concluded there was no evidence that UFOs represented a direct physical danger. Additionally, no traces of phenomena attributable to hostile foreign artifacts were found, nor was there a need to revise current scientific concepts.
The final recommendation was to strip UFOs of their mysterious aura and inform the public that no evidence of hostile forces existed behind the sightings. This report, approved for release in 2010, was signed by prominent scientists and academics, such as H.P. Robertson and others in technology and physics. Their goal was to normalize public perception and prevent unfounded alarms based on incomplete or misinterpreted reports.
