Summary

In 1956, Hungary witnessed multiple sightings of unidentified flying objects. Reliable witnesses reported that the country's air defense detected a formation of objects flying at extremely high speeds, around 25,000 meters. These objects showed no signs of disturbance, leading to the belief they had no weaponry. For several weeks, daily reports described objects capable of changing direction, accelerating, and decelerating effortlessly. The situation sparked debates in Hungarian technical institutions, where it was concluded that the reports might be part of a propaganda campaign.

Despite investigations, it was concluded that the objects did not physically exist, and the reports were considered a fabrication. However, some official comments showed concern, such as a colleague who remarked: "If they are real, I hope they are heading to Moscow." This ambiguity reflected both fear and uncertainty of the time, in a context of geopolitical tensions. CIA documents suggest the phenomenon was considered a myth, although the possibility of something real was not entirely dismissed.
